Simple Safety Update – Issue 20 September 2011

Hi and welcome to our September Simple Safety Update.

As the end of the year rushes to meet us (yes I saw Christmas decorations in the shops the other day) confusion still reigns about harmonisation BUT we are busy getting on with the business of helping our client improve their safety anyway. This month we give you a full list of the codes of practice which have been issued to date so you can start coming up to speed with them. Don’t forget our training courses this month, which we have listed below.
Email us with your postal address to get sent our Training Calendar to display in your work place.

OHS News

You may remember my discussion of the duties of employer to contractors and the article I prepared on the cases which are indicating that the obligations owed to contractors may not be as wide as thought. This week Baiada Chicken has been granted special leave to appeal a decision of the Victorian Supreme Court to the High Court  in respect of the death of a contractor. The Supreme court found Baiada guilty in failing to ensure the health and safety of a contractor at one of its sites.
We will be watching this space. To read my article go to www.simpleohssolutions.com.au/articles
